Research-Based
We All Can Read incorporates the latest empirical research regarding what works for teaching basic reading skills. For this reason the National Right to Read Foundation has endorsed this program. The National Right to Read Foundation is listed at the federal government's official website for No Child Left Behind under the heading of Resources. In addition the Georgia Department of Education approved We All Can Read: Kindergarten through Second Grade Edition as a CATEGORY ONE intensive phonics program eligible to receive monies for the state-funded Reading First program in Georgia. Only programs that were determined to be research-based were qualified to be placed on the Reading First list, and of those programs only programs judged to be explicit, systematic phonics programs were placed under Category One.
The introduction of words is carefully sequenced. Words are introduced only after the phonetic rules governing their pronunciation are presented. Constant review is built into the book. Once a principle is introduced, it is systematically reinforced with review lessons which are strategically spaced throughout the remaining exercises. In addition Mastery Check Review Lists are located throughout the entire program to insure that the student has mastered each level prior to proceeding to subsequent levels.
Each lesson contains on average hundreds of words which illustrate and reinforce the concept which is being taught. Phonics involves mastering a sequential set of subskills; students often require a great deal of repetition in order to learn each subskill as it is presented. The We All Can Read: Kindergarten through Second Grade Edition provides students with an abundance of words in each lesson in order to enable the student to be able to learn the specific skill presented.
